WOW… I have really gotten lazy lately in the blog follow through and can only thank God that the rest of my spiritual walk has not been as neglected.

I recently had the pleasure of attending a leadership seminar last week and heard something that has changed my entire perception of leadership and ministry focus, It went something like this:

” The most common mistake most leaders make is instead of finding their target, taking aim and shooting at that target with all the skill and training they have in them, they shoot blindly and when the arrow hits -They then walk up to what they have hit and then draw the bulls eye”

I guess for some that hit and miss philosophy is all well and good in some circumstances but is that good enough for what God desires from us?

Does this mean we have to have a unwavering 5-10-20 year plan laid out before we embark on our  journey towards our goal?

Probably not,

Have you ever taken a trip with a destination in mind? Did you have a plan for getting there?

Did you have a map? GPS? Map quest directions?

Of course you did, nobody would ever go anywhere without having a plan for getting there BUT do we always get there the way we originally planned?

NO! there are going to be obstacles such as traffic, accidents, closed roads and here in Michigan – the 5th season, Construction !!!!

Does that mean that there will not be awesome sights or a great scenery? Should the focus of our intended destination be forgotten since our view is fine from here ?

Well, should we set goals for our ultimate destination? Yes! We must use goal setting as a map – a GPS to keep us focused, effective, and fruitful as leaders. But goal-setting must be done humbly,  with depth, passion and complete faith in God and His plan for our life.

Unfortunately it seems that most are happy to set goals for what is to be accomplished and then just run through life headlong bumping and banging into things until we eventually end up somewhere, It may be almost as good as where we were headed.

But is it where we were sent ?
